Secondary Schools

We care! It’s time to chat to protect, prevent and EMPOWER!

Our workshops aim to ensure that teenagers leave with a positive understanding of their bodies and the confidence to engage in open conversations with parents and caregivers.

Recent shifts in cultural conversation around consent, respectful relationships and the ever-evolving influence of social media algorithms on how we form relationships mean that creating spaces for young people to receive accurate information about relationships, sexuality and consent is becoming increasingly important.

Mandates for compulsory consent education up to Year 10 mean that the onus (and indeed, opportunity) falls on us as educators to create these safe spaces and provide tools for navigating complex situations.

The growing social pressure for an online presence has complicated how teens navigate this hugely important time of growth and development. Cognitively, tweens and teens are not wired to be able to safely navigate everything they see and hear online – but they are wired to connect. Increased time in online environments can also mean that adolescents find in-person interactions more confronting and intimidating. This creates the need for them to develop practical skills and strategies to navigate interpersonal relationships in real time with real people.

This need for online connection often increases risks, such as cyberbullying, sextortion, sharing of nudes and exposure to explicit pornographic images that create unrealistic depictions of sex.

Having access to positive Sexuality and Relationships Education leads to informed and responsible decision making, builds body autonomy, delays participation in sexual activity, increases safe sexual practices (in those who are sexually active) and protects against abuse.

FAQs

In the Primary School space we highly recommend working with individual classes in their classroom with their teacher present. This accommodates student comfort levels and ensures the teacher is part of process to navigate ongoing discussions.

In the High School space we are flexible to work with larger groups with the understanding that the ability for interaction and engagement may be compromised. It is always preferable to split large groups into multiple timeslots for best outcomes.

We value parents and caregivers as the primary educators in this area. Equally it’s important to prioritise children having access to important age-appropriate information about their bodies. For that reason, the Australian Curriculum has integrated important sexuality and relationships information into the Health and Physical Education learning space. If this is a topic a parent/school group require further support and information with we are available to offer parent information evenings covering tips on navigating this space and outlining content that will be covered during our visit.
